Durbin Delivers in the Clutch as Brewers Defeat Slumping White Sox 7-2

CHICAGO (AP) — Caleb Durbin came through with a crucial two-run single during a four-run sixth inning that lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.

Isaac Collins launched his first major league home run for the Brewers, while Freddy Peralta provided a steady outing, allowing two runs over six innings. With the victory, Milwaukee improved to 3-5 on their ongoing 10-game road swing.

The White Sox continued their unusual strategy of using an opener, doing so for a fourth consecutive game — a streak that ties the 2018 Tampa Bay Rays for the longest in MLB history, per STATS. Tyler Gilbert became the first pitcher to make three starts over a four-game span since Zack Greinke did it for Milwaukee in 2012, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Luis Robert Jr. and Andrew Benintendi homered for a struggling Chicago team that has now dropped 12 of its last 15 contests.

Gilbert pitched two innings before handing things off to Bryse Wilson, who cruised into the sixth before the Brewers offense broke through.

Joey Ortiz got aboard with an infield hit, swiped second, and came home on William Contreras’ single to right. Sal Frelick was hit by a pitch from Brandon Eisert with the bases loaded, and Durbin followed with a two-out RBI single to left that pushed the score to 5-2 in favor of Milwaukee.

Wilson (0-1) ended his outing having surrendered three runs on two hits across 3 1/3 innings.

Collins opened the scoring with a home run to left in the first inning, but the White Sox answered back immediately as Benintendi and Robert hit back-to-back long balls in the bottom of the frame.

Robert’s 415-foot shot to center marked his second home run in three games and his fourth of the season.

Peralta (3-2) gave up all three of his hits in the opening inning, and finished with five strikeouts and three walks.

The White Sox threatened again in the fifth with runners on the corners, but failed to capitalize as Robert flied out to end the inning.

Notable Stat:
Milwaukee has now won 11 of its last 12 games against the White Sox.

Next Matchup:
Brewers righty Tobias Myers (0-0, 4.50 ERA) is set to face off against White Sox starter Shane Smith (1-1, 2.30 ERA) in Wednesday’s series finale.
